Deep Ellum Cocktail Hotspot Adds a Buzzy New Brunch
The Sophisticated Drink Kings Are All in on Belgian Waffles

HIDE bar has made a name for itself over the past year for its innovative and memorable cocktails. Now the Deep Ellum hotspot at 2816 Elm Street has concocted a killer brunch menu that is now being served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
On the very first Saturday of brunch, I started with the Rosé All Day, which turned out to be quite refreshing for a chilly November morning. It’s a delicious mixture of rosé, gin, grapefruit, lavender and rose hip. A friend of mine ordered the Hide’s Bloody, which is the bar’s take on a classic Bloody Mary. The drink includes house-made Mary mix, vodka, spices — and a fresh pickle, carrot, and cauliflower as garnish.
Other cocktail options to get your weekend morning started right include the Lucky Mofo, a frozen cold brew coffee with Irish whiskey and cream, Yass Betch with vodka, mint, cucumber, honeydew and clarified lime and of course, plenty of mimosas.
Monkey bread is a must-try for brunch. Fluffy cinnamon bread covered with cream cheese icing comes in a personal cast iron skillet. Breakfast on a Stick — three crispy pancake wrapped sausages with maple butter and cinnamon-vanilla syrup — is another “snack” option. There are also Dirty Tots with bacon lardons, pickled jalapenos, Oaxaca cheese sauce and shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
For entrees, many plates look intriguing, but I decided to go with the arrabbiata baked eggs, which include parmesan, arrabbiata sauce and arugula. My brunch date ordered the ham & cheese baked eggs with ham, gruyere, fontanel and breadcrumbs and we tried a bit of each. Both savory dishes balanced out the wonderful sweetness of the monkey bread that we continued to scrape out every crumb of during our meal.
Not one, not two, not three, but four Belgian waffles are featured at HIDE’s new brunch. Four! Bacon & cheddar, blueberry & candied pecans, Nutella & fresh berries, and chicken & waffles are all options for the waffle fanatic. There are also chilaquiles, porridge, biscuits and gravy and more. And if you lean more towards the lunch side of brunch, a double cheeseburger, fried chicken sandwich and steak salad are also on the menu.
Dallas’ restaurant brunch scene just got a little more fun — and competitive.
