When the Big Vibe Group transformed The Dunlavy, the former casual daytime restaurant and evening event space, into an inspired and somewhat formal Mexican restaurant, they put the kibosh on private parties beneath the space’s signature forest of glistening chandeliers. And many fans were feeling blue.
What about the weddings, the corporate events and anniversary celebrations that might have been held on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, they cried. Alas, the restaurant was not going to undertake the mammoth task of moving the rich, velvet-covered chairs and sofas and tables for special events.
This is a restaurant business. No outside catering, thank you.
But Big Vibe Group, headed by Grant Cooper, had special plans. There would still be opportunities to host an elegant evening beneath the chandeliers — just in a more intimate setting. The former Lost Lake Visitors Center, connected to the restaurant, has been transformed into a magnificent treehouse space that functions as a vibrant extension of Flora. Private dining returns.

Say hello to the Frida Private Room at Flora, a jewel box of a space with bayou greenery as backdrop and more than a dozen vintage chandeliers providing notes of elegance overhead. Glass walls deliver views to the verdant surroundings while one vibrant red wall speaks to the Frida influences.
The room can be booked for celebrations for as many as 50 guests, all food and drink provided by Flora. Hosts can choose from three or four course menu options or create their own menus from Flora’s culinary repertoire. Frida is available for booking daily lunch and dinner. A food and beverage minimum will be determined by the time of day, day of the week and the month.
The Big Vibe Group emphasizes that the main dining room and main patio will function only as Flora restaurant. No special events. Further, wedding ceremonies will not be allowed in the Frida Private Room.
