Austin’s Queso Kings Are Opening Up a Bold New Restaurant on South Lamar
Food Surprises Promised as Prime Space Scooped Up

Ask any Austin local for the best queso, and before long their mind will inevitably be transported to Kerbey Queso, an indulgent bowl of melted cheese with a scoop of creamy guacamole and pico de gallo. The dish is perfect for brunch, dinner, or late night cravings, thanks to Kerbey Lane Cafe’s late hours.
For years, Kerbey Lane has been providing college students and longtime locals alike with a popular brunch with warm service, and seasonal specials that are well-known. Note: Kerbey’s cinnamon roll pancakes were once just a daily special, but after pancake fanatics went nuts for them, they were added to the daily menu.
Now, Kerbey Lane is opening up a new restaurant concept on South Lamar, in the space Barile Restaurant and Flour and Vine used to operate in.
The new restaurant is slated to open sometime in 2019.
“The team at Kerbey Lane Cafe has had another concept on our minds for some time,” a restaurant spokesperson says. “We wanted to develop something that exemplified the values of Kerbey Lane, but appeals to a slightly different demographic.
“We want this new concept to be a place where new Austinites feel welcome and also feel like they’ve had a high-quality meal at a great value.”
The space on South Lamar was chosen not just because of the real estate opening, but based on Kerbey Lane’s desire to be in a vibrant, urban neighborhood that’s both walkable and possessing ample parking. Weiss Architecture and Kris Swift of Future Design Now will revamp the space for the new restaurant that Kerbey Lane reps say will be bright and welcoming.
The new spot will include a notable patio and bar. While the food details are being kept secretive, the new concept will serve breakfast lunch and dinner — and have a full bar. Kerbey Lane’s executive chef Joe Anguiano, formerly of VOX Table, is working on perfecting the menu.
