What: The Alley Theatre’s The Cake opening night dinner
Where: The Alley Theatre‘s Texas Room
PC Moment: This was a first for the Alley, as managing director Dean Gladden noted over pre-performance cocktails, the first time that the theater presented a show that coincided with a Supreme Court ruling while director Jackson Gay, a Sugar Land native, spoke to guests about the essence of the play, which is about love, the need to love and the need to listen with love. Before the production, theater board members and guests savored a City Kitchen dinner that concluded with a pink lemonade cake, which is some way was the involuntary protagonist of the show.
Following the production, guests mingled with the actors and with the Alley’s director of new work, Liz Frankel, who led the group in a champagne toast.
Who: Alley board president Butch Mach and wife Carmen, Alley interim artistic director James Black, Lynn Wyatt, Judge Ana Lisa Garza, Connie and Roger Plank, Cornelia and Meredith Long, C.C. and Duke Ensell, Elizabeth Marshall Black, Nancy McGregor and Neal Manne, Gracie and Bob Cavnar, Jane Gladden, Patty and Larry Campagna and show sponsors Demi and Ron Rand and Jane and Larry Wagner.
