What: Tiger Ball: Enchanting China.
Where: Asia Society Texas Center.
Who: Chairs Anne and Albert Chao and Y. Ping Sun and David W. Leebron; honorees Lily and Charles Foster; Asia Society’s John Bradshaw Jr.; artist Mel Chin, who donated artwork to the auction; presenting corporate sponsor Chevron’s Joni Baird; and patrons Lydia and James Chao, Lynn Wyatt, Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, and Maria and Neil Bush.
PC Moment: It may be the Chinese Year of the Goat, but it was the night of the tiger at the highly anticipated, sold-out annual ball. A lengthy red carpet and golden dragon greeted nearly 700 glamorously dressed guests, unfazed by rain and traffic, who were escorted from the tent by umbrella-toting ushers to a grand seated dinner throughout the galleries and on the stage of the theater in the Taniguchi-designed building. Raising more than $1.3 million for Asia Society programs, revelers returned to the tent for dancing and treats from the impressive dessert buffet (including bananas Foster in a cheeky homage to the honorees).
