Free Mental Health Services in Greater Houston Given a Life Saving Boost
$600,000 and the Faith to Make a Difference

PC Moment: The organization that provides free, faith-based mental health services throughout the greater Houston area drew a house of more than 500 supporters. Keynote speaker Dr. Vikram Patel, Harvard’s professor of global health and social medicine, talked about his work on reducing the treatment gap for mental disorders in low resource countries.
A brief video covered HHCI’s Gateway to Hope program which is part of the global movement to reimagine how mental health care can be delivered by equipping faith communities throughout Houston to be “open doors” to life saving mental health resources.
Dr. Matt Stanford, HHCI CEO, introduced honoree Ed Emmett, a prominent advocate for those suffering from mental health disorders who spearheaded the Mental Health Jail Diversion program, a community-based alternative for people with mental illness who have been detained for non-violent offenses.
Ben Moreland chaired the luncheon that raised close to $600,000, thanks in part to luncheon underwriter the John M. O’Quinn Foundation.
