Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to be Featured in The Smithsonian: Storied Museum Can’t Get Enough of the Iconic Squad
By Natalie Gempel //
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History is getting an unlikely addition to its collection of historic objects. Next week, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are donating a few artifacts to the museum, including some of their iconic blue-and-white uniforms.
Cowboys chief brand officer Charlotte Jones Anderson will make the presentation at the museum on Monday. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders director Kelli McGonagill Finglass and select Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will also be in tow.
The museum will receive an original uniform designed by Paula Van Wagoner in the 1980s, a 2016 uniform, sets of poms, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Barbie dolls and a copy of the first poster to feature an NFL cheerleading team.
Surprisingly, The Smithsonian actually has an existing collection of cheerleading objects, including some items from Texas teams like the Greenville High School Flaming Flashes and the Kilgore College Rangerettes.
The museum has no immediate plans to display the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders memorabilia. Hopefully that changes soon: You can’t have American history without America’s Team.
