Do You Savor a Favor?

BY // 01.21.15

Delivery has become a rather foreign concept for Houstonians. Ask a native which restaurants deliver, and you’re probably met with a blank stare; google “Houston delivery,” and you’ll often find rather underwhelming results. Fortunately, all of that changes with the Houston debut of Favor Delivery. If delivery is our foreign language, Favor is Houston’s long-awaited Rosetta Stone. Achieving tremendous success in Austin, Boston and Dallas, Favor is a mobile app that delivers whatever their customers desire (except for alcohol —sorry, guys). Anything from food to groceries can be ordered and delivered in less than an hour with the touch of a button. The app, created by longtime friends and former pizza delivery guys Zac Maurais and Ben Doherty, is the Uber of delivery. The app connects customers with drivers and bikers (also known as Favor Runners), who place the requested order. Favor Runners then pick up the order and deliver it.

“The Favor Runners [drivers and bikers] are the face of the company,” says Maurais. “We’ve engineered the tools to optimize the delivery process. Runners receive directions, details about the orders, and can communicate directly with customers.” The runners can communicate with customers via text to let them know wait times and the availability of the requested product. “I think it’s important to stay human, to empower our drivers and make the service personable,” says Doherty. “There’s something special about having these one-on-one conversations happen. Our Favor Runners work as your personal assistant. They each have their own ways of building a relationship in a short amount of time.”

The app also has a featured page of restaurants that were selected after a thorough investigation to find the highest quality local favorites. The page is carefully crafted for each city to remain hyper local. Featured Houston restaurants include Goode Co. BBQ, Japanese eatery Osaka, Italian pizzeria Dolce Vita and the new cafe Tout Suite. As for pricing, all orders come with a $6 delivery fee and a 5 percent service charge. Customers are also expected to tip their Favor Runner. The app will service Downtown, the Medical Center, Midtown and Rice Village and promises to expand in the future.

To fête Favor’s Houston launch, the company is giving all first-time customers free delivery using the promo code “CLUTCH”. So do yourself a Favor and download the app today.
